Greystones hold a slender lead at half time in the AIB League Division 3 final at Lansdowne Road, thanks to two penalties from young out-half Niall McCarthy.
Ards look the more potent in possession however, and struck early as off a 15-metre scrum full back Stewart Paul ghosted through a midfield gap to touch down to the right of the 'Stones posts. He subsequently missed the conversion into a tail wind.
Backed by the breeze, McCarthy slammed over a 40-metre reply on 10 minutes. The 22-year-old missed his second attempt after 22 minutes from a shorter distance after the Ulster side had infringed at a ruck.
But 'Stones went in front two minutes before the break through McCarthy's second success from 28 metres.
