Dolphin narrowly lose out at Garryowen
Garryowen 24 Dolphin 23
The AIB League's record points scorer, John O'Mahony, narrowly missed with a last minute conversion attempt of scrum-half Keith Murphy's try as Dolphin went down 24-23 to provincial rivals Garryowen at Dooradoyle.
The Cork side are unfortunately moving closer and closer to the relegation battle, after coming up from Division Two last season.
O’Mahony, scorer of 128 points in his 12 previous games, was left and wide with the conversion attempt of his half back partner's injury time snipe.
In a low-scoring opening, three penalties from Garryowen out-half Alan Purcell sent the home side in at the break, 9-7 in front.
Veteran centre Mick Manning bulldozed over on 26 minutes for his side's opening try, converted well by O'Mahony.
Garryowen, who move up to eighth after Clontarf's loss in Dungannon, scored after the restart through back row Conor Hartigan, his fifth of the season, and Anthony Kavanagh, with Purcell converting the second on 51 minutes.
Dolphin right wing Shane O'Halloran replied to leave the score at 24-18 going into the final 10 minutes, and despite Murphy sliding over in the right corner, Dolphin succumbed to their fifth away loss from six outings this season.
