Buccaneers make it six wins in a row
St Mary’s 17 Buccaneers 44
Third-placed Buccs made it six wins on the trot at Templeville Road with this six-try demolition of St Mary’s.
The Pirates have not lost since their last trip to Dublin on the first of November, when UCD defeated them 25-21.
Mary’s, who should have been buoyed by improved performances against Clontarf and Ballymena, scored just once in the first half through a Barry Lynn penalty.
An indictment of how poor a season it’s been for Brent Pope’s men is the fact that they were only crossing for their seventh and eighth tries of the campaign when Chris Fifield and Karl Gilligan scored in the second half.
The game was all but gone for them at 26-3 down at the break.
Former Connacht U21 Justin Meagher, Buccs’ joint top scorer failed to get amongst the points as tries were shared out between back row David Kelly (2), wing Wayne Munn (2), and scrum-half Chris Keane and skipper Eoin Brennan.
Out-half David Connellan took his season’s tally to 80 points with four conversions and two penalties.
