The Borders have allowed Gregor Townsend to sever his ties with the club to join Super 12 side Natal Sharks.

The Borders have allowed Gregor Townsend to sever his ties with the club to join Super 12 side Natal Sharks.

The former Scotland international had indicated his desire to leave the country but he was still contracted to the club for another season.

But after discussions with The Borders they have agreed to release the stand-off, Scotland’s most capped player, from his contract.

Borders coach Tony Gilbert said: “We have a way forward in resolving any outstanding issues related to Gregor’s departure to Natal Sharks and we wish him well with his ambitions in Super 12.”
