Lansdowne 28 UCD 32

The Students made it three wins out of three as winger Stuart McCarron inspired UCD to this win over an improving Lansdowne side on Lansdowne’s back pitch this afternoon.

The fleet-footed McCarron scorched over for a hat trick of tries, just as the home side nearly staged a dramatic comeback win, having been 20-12 down at the break.

In between McCarron’s efforts, centre Ken Kennedy and flanker Neil Coughlan scored for the visitors, with full back Philip Bredin kicking two conversions a penalty.

Harry Williams’ men, without a win in two games now, replied through Liam Toland and Fiachra Baynes, before the UCD pack succumbed to a late penalty try.

Leinster out-half Matt Leek began the game, hitting over three penalties and a conversion before being taken off with an injury late on, replaced by Brian O’Mahony.
