New Zealand lead at half-time in today's third/fourth place play-off in Sydney.

The All Blacks started well and were rewarded with a Chris Jack try on 13 minutes, converted by Leon McDonald.

France replied with a Dimitri Yachvili penalty three minutes later.

However, New Zealand stretched their lead with a Doug Howlett try on 20 minutes which Daniel Carter converted.

France kept in touch with a Dimitri Yachvili drop goal on 34 minutes.
