Straeuli faces stand-down calls
South African coach Rudolf Straeuli faces calls for him to be sacked this week along with several other administrators following the Springboks’ shoddy display at the World Cup.
Straeuli, whose side were demolished 29-9 by the All Blacks in Melbourne on Saturday in the quarter-finals, will know his fate in the next few days as pressure mounts to fire him because of his results.
And while the coach could become the ninth Springbok coach to lose his job in 10 years, several senior administrators are also under fire, including SA Rugby managing director Rian Oberholzer and president Silas Nkanunu.
The Springboks return home Monday to what is likely to be a hostile reception as they failed to reach the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history.
