France 10, Ireland 0 (latest)

An unsettled Ireland trail France after 20 minutes of their World Cup quarter-final clash in Melbourne.

Ireland were caught napping in the third minute as French out-half Frederic Michalak sent a cross-field kick into space that bounced favourably for Number 8 Imanol Harinordoquy who was being chased by Girvan Dempsey.

Harinordoquy offloaded to flanker Olivier Magne, who went over for the try that was duly converted by Michalak.

Ireland could have been three tries down, as wing Aurelien Rougerie skipped past the defence to touch down - but his foot was in touch as Ireland again got off the hook.

Three minutes later, a Brian O’Driscoll tackle on Tony Marsh, who was clean through, saved further blushes, but France extended their lead through a Michalak penalty.
