Mather flies out to join Scotland squad

Glasgow back-row Cameron Mather has been called into the Scotland World Cup squad three years after his last international appearance.

The 31-year-old New Zealand-born forward won the last of his four caps as a replacement against France during the dismal 2000 Six Nations campaign.

But he is coach Ian McGeechan's choice to take over from knee injury victim Andrew Mower.

Mower will be forced to have reconstructive surgery on his left knee after breaking down in training earlier this week.

While Mower heads back to Britain, Mather is flying in the opposite direction, although he is extremely unlikely to be involved in Scotland's second Pool B outing against the United States in Brisbane on Monday.
