New Zealand’s vice-captain Tana Umaga ruptured the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the All Blacks’ opening World Cup match against Italy, it has been confirmed.

It is not yet known whether the injury will rule Umaga out of the entire World Cup – but even if it does, head coach John Mitchell will not be seeking a replacement centre.
