England captain Martin Johnson felt his side were given a good workout by Georgia in their World Cup opener today but admitted improvement would be needed.

England ran out convincing 84-6 winners as they scored 12 tries in Perth but Johnson felt there were some areas that still needed work.

Johnson told ITV: “It was a bit of a strange game. It was very wet and they were tough and physical.

“They battled through and we did not have it all our own way. They put pressure on us, but we won the game, we scored 12 tries and were defensively pretty sound.

“No team plays their best first game. We need to play better. We have a massive game next week and neither us nor South Africa have learnt much about each other from our first games.”
