Late try sinks Students

UCD 18 Garryowen 25

Connacht’s Paul Neville intercepted a pass deep inside his own half and made the gut-wrenching run to the line, followed in vain by Neil Coughlan, for the match-winning try one minute from the end of normal time at Belfield.

Garryowen made a strong start with man of the match Cillian Keane scoring a penalty and converting his own try for a 10-0 lead.

Tries from Eoghan Hickey and David Blaney turned it around temporarily. Hickey’s first penalty gave UCD a 15-13 lead at the break.

Second row John O’Sullivan got over from close in to put Garryowen back in front.

Hickey’s 75th minute penalty looked like forcing a draw until Neville’s interception.
