Japan have virtually guaranteed their passage to the World Cup finals after a record-breaking victory over Chinese Taipei.

The 155-3 thrashing at the National Stadium in Tokyo smashed Japan’s best-ever win in a Test match and equalled the biggest-ever winning margin that Argentina created in a 152-0 success over Paraguay earlier this year.

The records kept falling as well with Daisuke Ohata creating a new national mark with eight tries, thus becoming his country’s leading scorer with 30.

It was also a good day for Andy Millar, who wrote himself into the Japanese record books with 12 conversions - even though he only kicked in the second half.
