Young Munster are staring relegation in the face after going down by a late converted try to Ballymena at rain-soaked Clifford Park.

Ballymena led 12-5 at half time thanks to four penalty goals from Ireland A out half Paddy Wallace.

Young Munster sole reply during the opening period was a try from hooker Bevan Cantrell.

Backed by a strong breeze in the second half, Young Munster took the game to their opponents and two penalty goals from Michael Lynch brought Munsters to within a point of Ballymena.

An excellent individual try from Lions' Rob Henderson, which was converted by Lynch, gave the home side an 18-12 lead.

However, Ballymena came back strongly and a try from Stanley McDowell, which was converted by Wallace, saw Ballymena run out 19-18 winners.
