Rugby: England withdraw from Sevens tournament

England have withdrawn from the IRB World Sevens tournament in Dubai.

However, RFU performance director Chris Spice confirmed England’s intention to participate in the next event in Durban on November 17-18.

‘‘We remain committed to the World Sevens Series and we will be taking part in Durban,’’ he said.

‘‘Our decision not to participate in Dubai was one we did not take lightly but the withdrawal of the tournament’s official status left us with little alternative.

‘‘We hope that the organisers and sponsors of the Dubai tournament understand our position.’’
