Lions Tour: Taylor certain Lions will not be complacent

Wounded Lion Simon Taylor reckons there is no way the side will underestimate the scale of their task in returning home with a series victory, despite the ease of their first two wins.

Graham Henry’s men added to last Friday’s massive 116-10 defeat of Western Australia with another mightily impressive 83-6 win over the Queensland President’s XV yesterday.

With the current world champions stuttering to their own 41-29 victory over the New Zealand Maoris last weekend, hopes have risen of an easy ride for the Lions in three Tests.

However, Taylor, forced to return home from Down Under after only two weeks because of a knee ligament injury, believes no one in the Lions camp will be ruling out the Aussies just yet.

He said: ‘‘The experience that’s in the squad, I don’t think they’ll be under any illusions as to how hard the games coming up will be. I don’t know if they would be expecting to win so well against the Queensland President’s XV but the fact is they have.

‘‘It’s good for the first two games to just get a bit of confidence and run in a few tries but they’ll know how hard the games coming up are.’’

The 21-year-old Edinburgh Reivers number eight admits he’s still coming to terms with the massive disappointment of being sent home early after the try-scoring debut against Western Australia promised so much.

However, despite the pain of watching from afar he will turn into an armchair fan for the remaining eight games before concentrating on getting his Scotland place back after the summer.

He added: ‘‘I’m just getting used to being back, getting used to the fact that I’m not there. I have started treatment and it’s good to be getting on with that.

‘‘It would certainly be painful to watch the games just now. But I’ve obviously still got a big interest in it because when you know people who are playing you want to watch them and see them do well. I would imagine I’ll watch most of the games because I’ve got more of an interest than most people.

‘‘Now I’m back, I’ve got to just focus on getting the injury better and playing well for the season to try and get in the Scotland team.’
