Rugby: Unconvincing victory for Garryowen
Garryowen 30 DLSP 22
Garryowen kept their slim hopes of a top four place alive with their uncinvincing eight point victory over a plucky DLSP side at Dooradoyle.
The Limerick side scored 13 points in the final 10 minutes to score a flattering win over relegation-threatened DLSP.
The visitors were unlucky not to be more than one point ahead, 10-9, at the interval after Phil Costello got over for a well taken try after 14 minutes.
Garryowen upped their performance after the changeover after an excellent try from winger Steve Mackay putting them back in front within 11 minutes of the restart.
But DLSP responded almost immediately to regain the lead when scrum-half Brian Hogan scrambled over for a fine individual score.
Garryowen finally began to exert sustained pressure on the DLSP defence and two penalties from Killian Keane from almost halfway and a second penalty from Jeremy Staunton helped them to a 20-15 lead with 10 minutes left.
A Kevin Hartigan try following an opportunist break from Tom Tierney saw Garryowen victorious despite another DLSP try from full-back Eddie Devitt.
