Newcastle West won a thriller away to St. Senan’s to close the gap on Clonmel at the top of Division 1 of the Munster Junior League.

A last minute drop goal from Tommy Kelleher earned a 32-29 win. The visitors raced into a 17-5 lead but trailed 22-17 at half time. Senan’s extended their advantage with a converted try, but Newcastle West levelled with two tries and a conversion and Kelliher’s drop goal sealed the win.

Leaders Clonmel made it six wins from six with a 24-5 home win against Muskerry. Tony Cantwell, Mark Corby and Neville Melbourne were Clonmel’s try scorers and Dylan Cadogan converted all three and also kicked a penalty. Stephen Hallissey replied with a try for Muskerry.

The shock of the day was at Richmond Park where late tries from Ger McCarthy and Mark Purcell saw Clonakilty snatch a dramatic 25-23 win against Richmond to ease their relegation worries. Olan Deane and McCarthy were Clon’s other try scorers and Eoin Deasy kicked a conversion and a penalty. Richmond replied with two tries from Ross O’Neill and one by Stephen Gallagher. Brian Bennett kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Clanwilliam defeated Skibbereen 20-7 with tries from Jack O’Dwyer and Darragh Crowe. Niall Leahy kicked two penalties and a conversion and Darragh Burke also added a conversion. Denis McCarthy replied with a try and conversion for Skibbereen.

Bandon edged out Galbally 13-9 in an exciting game at Old Chapel. Gareth Burton scored a try for Bandon and Sean Óg Murphy kicked a conversion and two penalties. Jack O’Mullane kicked three penalties for the visitors.

Abbeyfeale had a bonus point 22-5 home win over Cobh Pirates. Derry O’Connor, Colm O’Sullivan (2) and Eoin McHenry scored tries for Abbeyfeale and Tom Hassett converted one. Shane Cullimore was Cobh’s try scorer.

Old Christians are rooted to the bottom of the table after their 31-3 home defeat by Kilfeacle. Jamie Heuston, Kevin Kinnane, Simon Barry, Pat Humphries and Josh Ryan scored tries for Kilfeacle and Ryan added three conversions. John Marnell kicked a penalty for the home side.

Waterpark extended their advantage in Division 2 with a 41-10 home win against Mallow. Alex Molloy scored three tries and a conversion. Ivan Kiersey, Scott Hornibrook, John O’Brien and Dave Lattimer also scored tries and O’Brien kicked three conversions. Brian Henry scored two tries for Mallow.

Tries from Brendan Mackey and Colin Mulcahy and a conversion and penalty by Keith McCarthy was not enough for Youghal who lost away to Kinsale 23-15. Sean Kingston, Ben Gur and Timmy Lynch scored tries for Kinsale and Timmy Broderick kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Thurles kept their challenge alive with a 17-13 win at Charleville. Ciaran Ryan and Aidan Dwyer scored tries for Thurles and John Lillis converted both and added a penalty.Gavin Kelleher scored Charleville’s try and Michael O’Flynn kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Ballincollig put a dent in Waterford City’s promotion hopes with a 20-14 win. Shane Kavanagh, Rob Foulkes and Aaron O’Flynn scored tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland kicked a conversion and a penalty. Crosshaven defeated Castleisland 22-8 with three tries from Darren O’Keeffe and one by Said Koya. Tim Marron added a conversion.
