Scottish Rugby Union chief Mark Dodson said the country moved for Gregor Townsend as he had become “one of the most sought-after coaches in the game”.

Townsend will take over from Vern Cotter as Scotland head coach in June 2017, the SRU confirmed last night.

Townsend has impressed since taking charge of Glasgow in 2012, after a three-year stint as an assistant coach with the national team.
