Doyle, Mahon tries win it for Monkstown
In a tentative opening, CUS centre James O’Kane and Mahon were both off-target from kicks at goal. O’Kane’s miss three minutes before the interval meant the sides were scoreless at the break. Mahon and O’Kane finally had some luck from the kicking tee in the 38th and 42nd minute respectively, before Monkstown replacement Doyle broke over with his first touch at the end of the third-quarter.
After cancelling out a second O’Kane penalty, Mahon added a converted five-pointer of his own, and despite conceding a stoppage-time try to CUS replacement Brendan Meehan, Monkstown advanced to the last eight.
