Mark Anscombe’s future as Ulster head coach is still up in the air, despite taking the side to their second successive Heineken Cup quarter-final following victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Saturday.

The 56-year-old Aucklander’s initial two-year contract is due to run out at the end of May and while there have been protracted negotiations with Ulster’s director of rugby, David Humphreys, it appears there are still a few sticking points.

Anscombe has also been reportedly approached by at least one other Pro12 outfit and an offer is on the table. However he refused to be drawn on the issue yesterday.
