Young Munster were unable to take advantage of Garryowen’s Ulster Bank League defeat to Lansdowne because their game against Dolphin was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Musgrave Park.

However, they now have a match in hand and are five points behind their Limerick rivals and nine adrift of Lansdowne with games to come against both.

Cork Constitution secured another important victory over champions St Mary’s College, beating the Dublin side 22-13 in a tightly-contested game at Templeville Road.

Shannon’s home defeat to Clontarf pushed them further towards the lower division.

In Division 1B, Ballynahinch got the better of Dublin University and now enjoy an eight point advantage over their student rivals, with Belfast Harlequins and UCD in third and fourth places respectively. The hard-fought battle in Stevenson Park worked out in favour of Dungannon, The 12-10 win over Bruff putting more pressure on the Limerick side.

Terenure moved back to the top of Division 2A courtesy of their win over Greystones at Dr Hickey Park and as UCC fell surprisingly to defeat against Cashel. It was also a huge win for Corinthians at Rifle Park as they unseated Banbridge from third place and now just two points break up the top three teams.

Division 2B leaders Rainey Old Boys were held to a draw away to Naas but NUIM Barnhall lost a chance to make up some ground when they were defeated by Skerries at Holmpatrick, the only consolation being the losing bonus point they picked up.
