Quesada: Sexton is no Racing cert
The Ireland out-half’s name has been tossed around like confetti in the French press, with speculation linking Sexton to Gonzalo Quesada’s Racing Metro, Toulon, Stade Francais and Montpellier.
But the Racing head coach yesterday denied any knowledge of contact with his club.
“Honestly, I read the papers and I didn’t know it (a meeting) had happened,” he said after yesterday’s Heineken Cup defeat to Munster at Thomond Park.
“If something happened, I want you to give me more information. I promise. I saw that in the paper and I said ‘wow’. I heard he was visiting France but Leinster is a big club coached by a big coach.
“I don’t know what he will do but if I was Jonny Sexton, having the possibility of playing for Joe Schmidt, for Leinster, for Ireland, I think there’s not enough money to go against that.
“I think he was just visiting [Paris]. I wasn’t part of any meeting or anything. I feel an Irish guy that can play for Leinster, for Ireland and for what I consider to be the best coach in Europe, I don’t think he’ll leave Ireland.”
