Tullow Tank back on the paddock, in line for recall

Ireland flanker, Sean O’Brien, will almost certainly be fit enough to play some part in Saturday’s Six Nations match against England at Twickenham.

The Tullow Tank missed Saturday’s victory over Scotland because of a skin-infection on his foot, but, according to team manager, Michael Kearney, is now well on the road to recovery.

“Sean was released from hospital over the weekend and trained today so we’re very hopeful he’ll be available for selection,” said Kearney yesterday.

“He was in hospital from Monday until the weekend so he probably lost a couple of kilos, but he’s in good form. The medical team will obviously monitor him during the week, but we’re pretty confident he’ll be available for selection because the infection has cleared up and he’s not on any antibiotics anymore.”

Ireland have no new injury concerns after the Scotland match, but, hardly surprisingly, there are plenty of walking wounded. Captain Rory Best is still nursing badly bruised ribs, while Donnacha Ryan will also be wrapped in cotton-wool after taking a heavy blow to his left shoulder against the Scots.

Rob Kearney and Jonny Sexton also appeared to pick up knocks, but, according to Kearney, will be fit to play against the English.
