Rockwell begin title charge

Rockwell open their Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Senior Cup title defence against Glenstal in Tipperary today (Clanwilliam Park, 3pm).

The champions are led by Seán McCarthy — a powerful second-row forward and nephew of Munster legend Mick Galwey - having suffered a broken arm in the semi-final defeat of CBC.

Although without the injured second-row Neville Flynn and back-row Aaron Sweeney, Rockwell can still call upon seven of last season’s final 22.

Glenstal go into the game under a cloud following the sudden death of team manager Brother Matthew Corkery last week.

Out-half Luke Bradley will be a key figure while Waterford minor hurler Ian Kenny is a centre to be reckoned with. He along with flankers Ian McCarthy and Tom Ryan have been honoured by Munster schools.
