Fergus McFadden was still coming to terms with a big week yesterday, having come in late to replace Keith Earls in the Ireland team to play Wales who withdrew when his baby daughter became ill.

“In camp we knew that Keith’s daughter was ill and I was just training like I was going to be starting, to be honest with you, until Keith came back in,” said McFadden yesterday.

“So when I did get the news it was great, I could get on with things, but it puts things in perspective as well.
