McLaughlin: Why we got Wilson back

IT remains to be seen whether or not the IRFU will stand firm or back down on their recent proposals regarding foreign players in the provinces but the diktat is already having concrete effects on the ground.

Ulster have announced the recapture of former player Roger Wilson from Northampton on a three-year deal and coach Brian McLaughlin admitted new rules played a part.

“When you have a player of his calibre with an Irish passport playing in England he is always going to be on your radar and one you are always keeping an eye on. He is one we were always going to want back with his Irish credentials and with these new IRFU proposals.
