Leinster’s Toner growing to his task

IF YOU believe that bigger is better, then you’ll enjoy the sight of the Leinster line-out go up against the Glasgow Warriors set-piece during Sunday’s Heineken Cup pool match.

Standing shoulder to shoulder will be two 6’10’’ giants. Devin Toner of Leinster and Glasgow lock Richie Gray.

The Scot has a bit more bulk to go with his height than Toner, and so far at least has made a bigger impact at international level than the Leinster player. But Toner looks like he’s finally starting to mature into the top-class lock that Ireland are crying out for, a fact underlined yesterday when he was announced as Leinster’s player of the month for September and October.
