Myler on target for Saints

PREMIERSHIP club Northampton Saints gained a small measure of revenge as they won this Heineken Cup final rematch at Donnybrook last night.

There was an element of experimentation in both sides for this friendly as Northampton built a 9-0 lead on the back of three Stephen Myler penalties in the 11th, 24th and 34th minutes.

Paul Diggin’s intercept try, converted by Ryan Lamb, prompted something of a response, as a textbook Leinster lineout and maul ended with a try for Jason Harris-Wright. Mat Berquist added the conversion.

Lamb nailed an 80th minute penalty ahead of Carr’s late surge.

Ulster 22 Harlequins 5

ULSTER got the perfect boost for the start of next week’s Pro12 League with deserved victory over Premiership side Harlequins at Ravenhill.

Brian McLaughlin’s side led 10-5 at the break, with Craig Gilroy scoring the opening try and influential fly-half Ian Humphreys landing the conversion and a penalty.

Harlequins just could not break the tough Ulster defence, with their only points coming from a Karl Dickson try in the 38th minute.

Lively Ulster scrum-half Paul Marshall grabbed Ulster’s second try in the 43rd minute, with flanker Willie Faloon closing out the game late on.
