O’Leary in contention for Munster squad

TOMÁS O’LEARY had little time to mull over his World Cup axing as the scrum-half returned to training with Munster yesterday.

O’Leary in contention for Munster squad

The Corkman is in contention to be named in the squad for a friendly against London Irish on Friday at Thomond Park (7pm).

James Coughlan, who was recovered from an eye injury sustained in last week’s defeat by London Wasps, is also expected to feature.

However, Munster last night confirmed that prop BJ Botha will be sidelined for up to a month following a calf injury sustained against Wasps. Botha will miss the province’s opening games in the RaboDirect PRO 12 League, beginning on September 3 against the Dragons.

Darragh Hurley (achilles) and development contracted Troy Smith (cruciate) will not be considered for the weekend nor will Johne Murphy who damaged a hamstring playing with the Ireland Select XV against Connacht.

The clash against the Premiership side will be preceded by an ‘A’ game between Munster and Connacht. Tickets for the senior game will be valid for the ‘A’ game. Both Munster squads will be announced tomorrow.
