ERC left red-faced after web crash

The 2011/12 draw was to be broadcast live on the internet from Twickenham but organisers were left red-faced as thousands of fans were unable to watch or listen to the event.

Irish supporters vented their anger on Twitter and Facebook at the debacle when the problem became apparent prior to the draw.

ERC spokesman Mark Jones admitted that the “crash” had caused a significant amount of adverse reaction and that an investigation had been launched into went wrong.

“We are talking to our web management company who were hosting the draw and stream. Some people logged on, but obviously a lot of people were not able to log on. There was a technical issue with the web management company who were hosting the stream but we don’t know exactly what the technical issue was. It was unfortunate because we know there was huge interest in the draw.”
