Stanley casts doubt on move
The 26-year-old centre, who plays for the Auckland Blues, has not yet committed to the province after this year’s World Cup. Following rumours on message boards, the Australian-born Kiwi was asked about a move to Ireland on radio in New Zealand.
“Oh possibly, I don’t know, considering my options, but obviously this (New Zealand) is where my heart lies.”
Connacht Rugby chief executive Gerry Kelly said it was the nature of the business that the province was always looking at players in different positions, but he would never comment on any signings until they were completed.
Connacht have bolstered their squad considerably for next season. Signings already confirmed include former Highlanders winger Fetu’u Vainikolo to replace the departing Fionn Carr, fellow New Zealander George Naoupu and hooker South African Ethienne Reynecke. Ulster’s TJ Anderson and Niall O’Connor, Exeter backrow Eoghan Grace, Welsh recruits Matthew Jarvis and James Loxton and Leinster Academy prop Stewart Maguire are also joining.
