No stopping Ard Scoil Rís
Three days after the school the hurlers’ victory in the Dr Harty Cup on Sunday it was the turn of the junior rugby team, who qualified for the semi-final of the Avonmore Munster Junior Cup competition.
In glorious conditions at Clifford Park, Ard Scoil proved too strong for a St Munchin’s side who qualified via the losers’ group.
Ard Scoil were dominant in most sectors but had to wait until 10 minutes from the break to go in front when prop Kelvin Brown went over for a try that out-half StephenFitzgerald converted.
He added a penalty to ensure Ard Scoil had a 10-0 cushion at the interval.
However, as they did in the previous round, St Munchin’s kept battling and a penalty by Ryan Meagher put them back in contention.
But when Joe Cannon had a second try for Ard Scoil Rís, which Fitzgerald again converted, it left St Munchin’s too much to do.
A try by Mark Long, converted by Meagher, was a mere consolation in the end.
