Ard Scoil take on St Munchin’s at Clifford Park (3pm), while Crescent meet Presentation Brothers College, Cork, another fancied side despite having to come through the back door, at Dooradoyle (3.30pm).
Pres lost the opening round (15-5) to an Ard Scoil side fielding a number of players from last year’s side.
Yet, by all accounts, the Cork school, who played most of the second-half with 14 players, will be expected to push Crescent pretty much to the limit.
They’re being given a decent chance of victory by neutral observers, based on having a well balanced team that has formidable scoring potential behind the scrum.
Back in Clifford Park, things might not be quite so easy for Ard Scoil against a St Munchin’s team that lost by a single point to Christian Brothers College, Cork. That one, too, might not quite go according to plan although Ard Scoil should edge it; they have made just one change from the last round, bringing back Oscar Lyons to the wing following his recent illness.
Rockwell beat Glenstal in round one and are now through to a confrontation against Castletroy in Clanwilliam today (3pm). The schools’ experts suggest the Tipperary side are just the slightest of favourites to advance to a semi-final confrontation against either Ard Scoil or St. Munchin’s.
At Temple Hill tomorrow (3pm), Christians and Glenstal clash in a game to allow one of them move on to a last four battle with either Pres or Crescent. The Cork side will be favourites to get through, although Glenstal’s fighting qualities in cup competitions should not be underestimated.
* There will be no extra-time in any of the games. In the event of a tie they will go to a replay after which a variety of rules will be engaged to settle any games that might end in a draw.
