McGahan plays it cool on O’Connell

MUNSTER coach Tony McGahan played his cards close to his chest when quizzed if Paul O’Connell will start the province’s crucial Heineken Cup tie away to Toulon later this month.

Former Ireland captain and Examiner columnist Donal Lenihan recommended such a move in his column this week and even suggested that McGahan should make that call apparent from an early stage.

But McGahan was non-committal yesterday. He said: “The coaching staff and Paul himself understand where he’s at and we’ll make that decision after Saturday.”
