Kiwi scrum guru with Reds

TOP scrum coach Mike Cron, who trains the All Blacks’ scrummagers, is spending a week in the Munster area, working with his Munster counterpart Paul McCarthy and the Munster Rugby Academy and sub Academy players.

Cron, who extended his contract with the NZRU until 2011 has been coaching since 1982 and been an NZRU resource coach since 2004.

As an NZRU resource coach he works with all New Zealand’s national teams, including the All Blacks, Junior All Blacks, New Zealand Under 20, Black Ferns and New Zealand Sevens teams.

He also works with New Zealand’s Super 14 teams, Air New Zealand Cup and Provincial Union academy teams, New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 17S, and is a tutor on the NZRU’s High Performance coach development courses.

He arrived in Ireland on Tuesday and spent Wednesday morning working with Paul McCarthy facilitating a scrum clinic for Academy, sub Academy and Under-age grade players in CIT. The main purpose of his visit is to impart his knowledge to the next generation of Munster rugby players.
