CONNACHT have hit out at the proposed move by Communications Minister Eamon Ryan to bring in legislation which will allow Heineken Cup games to be broadcast on free-to-air television.

Connacht chief executive Gerry Kelly warns that there could be “dire consequences” for the game in the province if the IRFU lose out on the millions it receives annually through television payments.

Kelly said that the progress made in recent years developing the game in the West of Ireland could be wiped out if the IRFU lose out on the millions it receives each year from television.
