Horan on the mend, Hurley set for lay-off
Horan might get game time this coming weekend for Shannon and he seems certain to be involved in Munster’s Magners League clash with the Llanelli Scarlets in Musgrave Park on Sunday week, just in time to prove his fitness for the Heineken Cup fifth round clash with Treviso.
Team manager Shaun Payne yesterday reported on the remarkable progress made by Horan since diagnosis of a career-threatening illness three months ago.
“Marcus continues to progress very well; towards the end of this week and depending on how he does in training we may look to get him some game time (with Shannon),’’ he said.
“If that happened it would obviously put him in the frame to play some part in the Scarlets game and, more importantly, for the Heineken Cup.
“Marcus is over the moon; he has got some very positive test results back, so he is happy, feeling much better than he has in the past several months. This (the problem) wasn’t something that suddenly came about, it was something that affected him for quite a while, he is happy that the problem was diagnosed, that it was fixed and it seems as if the fix has worked as well; we’re happy and he is happy,” he said.
Payne described Horan’s recovery as hugely positive news but that positivity was tempered by the worry surrounding Hurley, who will continue to be hospitalised to have treatment for an eye injury.
The manager explained: “Some time in October he received a laceration in his eye, it became an issue later when it became infected and it is now of such a serious nature that he is in hospital and will be there and out of action for some time.”
Meanwhile, Payne also reported that Felix Jones has underwent a medical procedure in an attempt to correct neck ligament damage sustained in the game with Connacht.
“It’s a lousy injury and we don’t know the time period for recovery but it is not, we are led to believe, going to be a long-term problem.”
