Shannon out to make amends
They get that opportunity today at Coonagh but will be without club captain Mossie Lawlor; on the plus side, Felix Jones should be available.
Constitution coach Brian Walsh could hardly believe how easy it was in the cup victory but is in no doubt that it was only a Shannon blip.
“It was an unusual outcome in that there is hardly ever more than a score between the teams. It was a game in which we took our chances and they just didn’t take theirs.
“From our point of view that match is totally forgotten,” he added.
It is one of two top fixtures in Limerick today, with Garryowen playing hosts to Clontarf at Dooradoyle and it’s an opportunity for the light blues to push their way back up the table. Indeed a victory today is imperative given their current lowly position.
Further up the table, something has to give in today’s match of the day at Templeville Road when St. Mary’s defend their place at the head of the table against second placed Blackrock while in-form Dolphin will be expected to take the points from UL Bohemian at Musgrave Park.
Dolphin, in fifth place, are well in contention for honours and received a further boost last weekend when qualifying for the semi-finals of the AIB Cup with a fine win over Galwegians.
There are two big games in division 1B, with leaders Old Belvedere taking on Dungannon at Anglesea Road and Young Munster (second) hosting UCC (fourth) at Clifford Park.
Division two leaders Lansdowne are expected to take the points at the RDS against Belfast Harlequins, while Bruff travel to meet struggling Clonakilty in confident mood.
Clon have just the one victory and that was against another out of sorts team, Dublin University.
Thomond’s sole loss came against Malone in their last outing but they will be out to prove that it was a mere hiccup in what so far has been an excellent campaign.
