RBS face outcry after €21 million Six Nations deal

THE Royal Bank of Scotland have extended their title sponsorship of the Six Nations Championship for a further four years, stating the agreement meets their “very specific business objectives”.

The new deal, which will be officially announced at the media launch of this year’s competition next Wednesday, will take the bank’s sponsorship of the Six Nations through to 2013.

An RBS spokesperson has denied reports placing the value of the deal at €21 million, but the news could prompt a public outcry at a time when the banking giant – 58% owned by the British government, a figure soon to rise to 70% – are also preparing to announce record losses for 2008.
