Cork Board worried about phone call rumours

THE Cork County Board is concerned over reports that club players who are not part of the intercounty squad have been asked not to make themselves available for the planned challenge game organised by St Colman’s College for next weekend.

Cork Board worried about phone call rumours

The suggestion is that individual players received phone calls from Cork players aimed at dissuading them from offering their services to play.

Responding last evening, Board Chairman Mick Dolan said: “We’re led to believe that’s happening. I’m sorry to hear it, but the game goes ahead.”

Meanwhile, Dolan re-echoed the executive’s support for the beleaguered McCarthy, saying: “Personally, I hate the blackguarding that’s going on as regards Gerald McCarthy. Gerald is a decent, honest man and has proved himself as a coach, proved himself on the field with Cork and as a gentleman and I’m 110% behind him.”
