Aussies deny ‘get Carter’ charge

AUSTRALIA and New Zealand yesterday squabbled over their line-ups for this weekend’s Bledisloe Cup match with the All Blacks claiming star player Dan Carter was being deliberately targeted.

New Zealand assistant coach Wayne Smith said Australia had intentionally picked a highly physical midfield after it was announced flyhalf Carter would make a rare start at inside centre.

“Probably once they saw our selection, I think they probably saw that as an opportunity to run a couple of big guys into that area,” Smith said.
