Leinster launch online television channel

LEINSTER have promised supporters a chance to have their say on the content of the team’s new online TV station.

While all of the provinces have experimented with video on their websites, Leinster yesterday become the first to launch their own online channel.

The ‘Leinster TV’ channel will be integrated into the newly-redesigned www.leinsterrugby.ie site, with supporters able to access interviews with players and coaching staff, match highlights and press conferences.

The site will be managed and produced by WaveNex, an online television production company and, the first of its kind in Ireland. The company directs and produces online video. as well as designing and developing websites on which to host the video.

While the content will be decided on by Leinster Rugby in consultation with WaveNex, supporters are invited to share their feedback on the site as well as give their thoughts on what else should be done, according to Leinster’s media and communications manager Peter Breen.

“We are delighted to be associated with Wavenex and look forward to developing Leinster TV over the coming weeks and months,” said Breen. “As our supporter base broadens both nationally and internationally, it is vital that we continue to develop and enhance our offering to all those who are interested in each and every facet of Leinster Rugby. We aim to offer an innovative interactive experience and we see Leinster TV as an important information and publicity tool and believe that it will become a popular product for our supporters.”

WaveNex’s Lucie McInerney, producer of Leinster TV, added that the online news medium continued to increase in importance.

“The online world is changing and users have higher expectations than ever before,” she said.

“TV has long been the most engaging medium, and its online presence is only increasing. We are looking forward to the challenge of providing both Leinster and their supporters with something they can be proud of.”
