Davies ‘excited’ to clinch top job at former club Scarlets
The former Llanelli centre and assistant coach will return to Stradey Park from his current post as the Welsh Rugby Union’s head of rugby development.
Davies’ appointment follows the Scarlets’ decision to sack director of rugby Phil Davies following a disappointing second season.
“It is a great honour for me to accept the role of head coach at one of the most famous teams in world rugby,” said Davies.
“It is exciting to be returning to the Llanelli Scarlets with the new stadium taking shape and the playing squad being strengthened in time for the new season.
Davies made 498 appearances for the Scarlets and won 29 Wales caps before moving into coaching under Gareth Jenkins, first with Llanelli and then Wales.
