Keane to show support

SUNDERLAND boss Roy Keane is to spurn a trip to Scotland for tomorrow’s Old Firm derby in favour of watching Munster’s Heineken Cup semi-final against Saracens in Coventry.

Keane to show support

The former Celtic player said: “It depends on our result, but my plan is to maybe go to the Munster game — if I can get a ticket.’

Meanwhile Keane revealed he was impressed with a lecture he attended by new England manager Martin Johnson, as part of his pro-licence course.

Keane said: “When you’re on the pro-licence, they get a lot of good speakers in. Sometimes it’s not necessarily what they say, but how they present themselves, and Martin, as you would expect, came across very well. He just spoke about when he was captain of England, but he wouldn’t have taught me anything I didn’t already know in terms of his leadership qualities because, as he said, he didn’t have a magic wand when he was a captain, he just led by example. I saw him play enough times to know he’s a great leader.

“I saw him do one or two things and thought, ‘That’s good.’ It’s not always about punching people. It’s the way he led in tough situations like the World Cup final. A good captain is vital.”
