The blindside break
Yet in the heat of battle, Peter Stringer had the presence of mind when feeding a scrum to note the boo boo from Bobo when he abandoned his position on the wing to track Anthony Horgan infield.
Sensing his opportunity, Stringer struck. The blindside domain was now the defensive responsibility of one of the greats of French rugby, Serge Betsen. For once in his life he was found wanting. Stringer’s awareness and acceleration left Betsen trailing in his wake.
Munster doesn’t normally get breaks such as this but Stringer’s vast experience and decision-making ability was encapsulated in that seminal moment. Given that they would only score two further penalties, Stringer’s try was a match winner.
