Pace-setters Con get chance to stretch their lead

CORK Constitution have an opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the AIB League at Temple Hill today (2.30pm).

The pace-setters are at home to lowly St Mary’s College (13th) while Shannon’s game against County Carlow doesn’t take place until tomorrow at Thomond Park.

Both sides are almost guaranteed places in the four team play-offs later in the season, particularly if they can register twin victories this weekend.

Of the two, Shannon would appear to have the more difficult task. Last time out, Carlow were denied victory over Constitution when evergreen Ultan O’Callaghan scored a late try and Pat McCarthy converted for a 16-14 success.

Dolphin make the long journey to Dungannon but will be in a more confident mood after their recent win over Lansdowne at Musgrave Park.

In division two, Sunday’s Well will demand victory from their players over DLSP at Musgrave Park today.

The ’Well are rooted to the bottom of the table and in considerable danger of making the drop.
