IRFU to consider its stadium options

THE Irish Rugby Football Union, still fuming over the Government’s U-turn on the ‘Bertie Bowl’, is now considering its options for the future of an internationally acceptable stadium.

The union says it will not make any further short-term comment on the matter, but is expected to make a major demand for Government funding if required to press ahead with plans to develop a new stadium.

Whilst senior executives of the union stay silent on the issue, a close source emphasised: "The IRFU is not in a position to service a debt of 200m and still run the game."
