IT was an emotional Saturday at Lansdowne Road.

Alan Gaffney returns to his native Sydney tomorrow and by Friday will be working in his new role as assistant to the Australian coach Eddie Jones.

It’s a well-deserved honour and an opportunity he is relishing, but Gaffney loved his five years in Ireland and especially the three he spent with Munster. There were hugs and embraces all round for him and his wife Lorraine and a few tears as well.
