Last-ditch attempts were being made last night to rescue crisis rugby club Rotherham from the brink of extinction.

A deadline of 5pm today was set earlier this week to find a new investor for the cash-strapped Titans, who have debts of more than £1m.

And although prospects of that happening remain remote, there has been interest shown from potential local backers.

Roger Hutton, a Leeds-based solicitor acting for insolvency practitioners Jackson Jolliffe Cork, said that today had been “a better day” as efforts continued to keep the English National League One club afloat.
